Social work students in practice learning need to be able to link theory to practice. The need to support students in this area often causes anxiety for practice assessors and placement supervisors.
This book is designed to support practice assessors and placement supervisors in facilitating students learning about theory and practice.
The book begins by introducing the concept of theory in practice, reminding practice assessors and supervisors about the ways in which they use and apply theory every day in some aspect of their practice. Ideas are given on how to support students to develop their learning in this area.
Subsequent sections briefly outline some of the key social work theories which will apply to any practice learning environment. Suggestions on further reading are provided throughout the text as are ideas for exercises to use with students.
