This brand new publication replaces our immensely popular "Law and the Management of Care Services".
The book provides the reader with an understanding of the legal and policy framework of services for children and young people and is designed to accompany From Birth to Eighteen Years: Children and the Law.
The publication is essential reading for candidates on the Leadership and Management for Care Services Award. It will also be useful to social work students and Post Qualifying Award candidates.
The first section of the book explores Government structures and systems of National social policy development. A directory of Government departments and non-departmental public bodies is provided with website details etc. The European dimension to the social policy landscape is also covered.
Subsequent sections cover particular social policy areas, putting key Government agendas into context.
The final section demonstrates the holistic (or eclectic) aspect of policy initiatives in children’s services and summarises some of the current key Government agendas including the Every Child Matters agenda, the professionalisation agenda, the transformation agenda and the respect agenda.
Please note: with increasing divergence in Government priorities this publication is suitable for readers in England only.
An equivalent for Adults services – Leadership in Adult Care Services: Understanding the policy framework is available.
